Volunteer With Us

Are you interested in volunteering in Africa?
Are you looking for a new challenge and a change of scenery?
Do you have knowledge and skills you’d like to share with one of the poorest parts of the world?
Phunzira is constantly looking for vibrant and enthusiastic individuals to join our projects in Ruarwe and
WE DO NOT CHARGE A FEE !

There are numerous opportunities for people of all ages and from all walks of life. We are looking for help with education, health, youth, business, construction, IT and management training. The overall focus of our project is to create a healthy and happy environment for everyone to learn and develop skills for sustainable living. We are therefore interested in passionate and creative individuals, so please don’t hesitate to read on even if you feel you don’t have a specific skill set.

Malawi is a beautiful country with a reputation for its friendly people and safe surroundings. Ruarwe is a remote village along the lake in an area of incredible natural beauty and it is both a challenging and rewarding place to work. There is no charge for volunteering with Phunzira and you will be staying in or near to Zulunkhuni River Lodge, where there are plenty of exotic birds and fish to keep you entertained.

Phunzira is a small organisation with very limited funds. Volunteers are not required to raise money before joining us but it may make your job a bit easier in terms of purchasing relevant resources. If you are interested in raising money then click here!

Education, Life Skills, Health & Recreation

We are looking for primary and secondary school teachers in Maths, Science and English as well as innovative people to assist with youth groups, art classes, sports sessions, IT workshops and play groups.

We are looking for doctors, nurses, nutritionists and anyone else who feels they have skills to offer. We welcome health professionals at all levels of training and specialisation who would like to share their knowledge and expertise.

The community centre is designed to be financially self-sufficient so a number of income generating activities have been established at NYM over the years. We are looking for individuals skilled in business and finance to work alongside the local staff in order to assist and train them on business practices and philosophies.

We are always building as part of our project. It is important to us to use locally sourced resources and build in tune with the land, climate and community. We embark on a number of construction projects each year and are looking for engineers, carpenters, architects and anyone interested in getting their hands dirty!

The centre is designed to be run independently by Malawian staff after handover, so we are looking for lively individuals that can help with staff training for managers and department coordinators on conceptual ideas such as working together, communication, team bonding, etc., as well as practical training on accounts, reports, operational procedures etc.
